Lego Robotics is just one of 15 week-long camps that will be offered this summer as part of Waubonsee Community College’s Xcelerate enrichment program for children ages 4 to 17. About: A variety of weeklong camps are offered, with themes including "LEGO Robotics," "Science Xplosion," "XTech Computer Camp," "Game Master," "Adventures in Movie Making," "NExt Top Chefs Cooking Camp," "Fashion Diva Design," "Rock Star Camp," "Secret Agent Camp," "Digging for Dinosaurs," "How Things Work."

Location: Weeklong camps meet at one of the following locations: Waubonsee Aurora Campus (18 S. River St.); West Aurora High School (1201 W. Name: Bright Horizons' "Our World Our Backyard" Summer Camp and "Camp Explorations X-treme Summer."

About: Summer camps at Bright Horizons offer convenience, healthy and safety, experienced staff, flexibility to meet parents' expectations -- and fun all summer long for kids. "Our World Our Backyard" is designed for preschool-aged children and provides adventure, exploration and fun in the great outdoors while building upon the children's skills and individual development. "Camp Explorations X-treme Summer" is for school-age children and provides them opportunities to establish new friendships, challenge their abilities and explore new activities. The kids are kept moving with weekly themes, including a focus on fitness and technology. Field trips and extraordinary guests enhance the camp experience for all ages.

Location: Bright Horizons has a number of locations around the Chicago area. The nearest location to Aurora is at 1601 W. Diehl Road in Naperville.

SciTech Hands On Museum in Aurora offers summer camps -- last year's themes included "Robotics," "Kitchen Chemistry," and "Bugs-a-palooza," among others, but details have not yet been posted for this year's programs as of mid-March.

The DuPage Children's Museum in Naperville offers a Preschool Summer Camp, with a typical day incorporating music, movement, art, math, science, dramatic play, storytime and a snack. Each week has a different theme, such as "Make It Move," "Color, Light and Shadow," and "Art Explorers."

  • Dates: Eight different week-long sessions, starting June 18 and running through Aug. 17. (Sign up for one session or many.) The day runs from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. 
  • Ages: Must be 3 by Feb. 1, 2012, and no older than 5 by Sept. 1, 2012.

The DuPage Children's Museum in Naperville offers Summer STEM Camps, standing for "Science, Technology, Engineering and Math." Each week has a different theme, such as "Robots, Robots Everywhere!" "Up, Up & Away," and "Cool Chemistry."

  • Dates: Eight different week-long sessions, starting June 18 and running through July 26. (Sign up for one session or many.) The day runs from 9 a.m. to noon.

The DuPage Children's Museum in Naperville offers "Engineering With Legos" Camps, featuring "Play-Well TEKnologies," providing project-based programs to teach principles and methods of engineering.

  • Dates: Varies. Weeklong sessions are offered from 9 a.m. to noon for children ages 5-6 and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. for children ages 7-10.

The Fox Valley Park District offers an extremely wide range of summer camps, focusing on major areas like sports, aquatics, fitness, nature and performing arts. There are also a number of "niche" camps for children interested in subjects like pioneer days, bugs and more.

The YMCA in Oswego offers a wide range of summer camps, including a traditional day camp (from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.); overnight camps; a fitness camp; a sports camp; a camp where older children get to explore Chicago attractions; and camps focusing on music and art.

The Oswegoland Park District, in conjunction with the Oswego Community School District 308, is offering an all-day recreational summer camp program that runs from 6:15 a.m. to 6:15 p.m. Monday through Friday. Camps will be offered at a number of schools in the district.
