Welcome to a New Sponsor: Fox Valley Family Physicians

Please join me in welcoming a new sponsor to Go West Young Mom. Fox Valley Family Physicians is a practice that sees patients from newborns through seniors – it aims to keep the “family” in medicine.

Fox Valley Family Physicians has two locations: One at 2425 Fargo Blvd. in Geneva (just west of Randall Road) and another at 905 N. First St. in Elburn. Each of its physicians is board certified in Family Practice, and they are active staff members at Delnor Hospital in Geneva.

Each doctor cares for his or her own patient, allowing you to build a relationship with your provider. But if your physician is on vacation or away from the office, one of the other physicians, nurse practitioners or physician assistants can meet your health care needs.

The practice also offers a wide variety of services such as physical therapy, digital x-rays, digital mammograms and phlebotomy. There’s even a dietician on staff. Patients are seen every weekday starting at 7:30 a.m. The practice is open til 6:30 p.m. three nights a week and until noon on Saturdays.

And here’s high praise: It was awarded first place as “Best Family Practice” by readers of the Kane County Chronicle in 2012.

Here are some of the services that Fox Valley Family Physicians can offer your family members:

  • Newborn care including circumcision/well and sick baby visits/immunizations
  • Minor surgery including cyst/lump removal and laceration care
  • Vasectomy
  • Colposcopy and related procedures
  • Routine gynecologic care
  • Mole/skin tag/wart care
  • Dietician consults and classes
  • IUD placement and removal
  • Well and sick child care
  • School physicals
  • Immunizations

If you are interested in setting up an appointment with one of the doctors at Fox Valley Family Physicians, please call 630-232-2200.

Finally, please join me in thanking Fox Valley Family Physicians for sponsoring Go West Young Mom. You'll be seeing the practice’s advertisement on the Calendar Page, as well as sections of the site including "Good Times," "Good Cents," and "Good Life."  It is the support of advertisers that makes GWYM possible.

Welcome to a New Sponsor: 5-Star Learning Ranch in Batavia

I’m so pleased to welcome a new sponsor to Go West Young Mom, and it’s one that especially appeals to young families.

The 5-Star Learning Ranch is a preschool and childcare center located in Batavia, just south of Fabyan Parkway, about a mile west of Randall Road.

When I first visited the 5-Star Learning Ranch, what immediately impressed me was the setting. It is located in a building that looks much like a cozy home, on nearly 4 acres of gorgeous property that features big, shady trees and a neighbor who keeps horses in his backyard.

The 5-Star Learning Ranch is located on nearly 4 acres of property. Photos by Tara Burghart. When the kids play outside, it’s not in some tiny area surrounded by a tall iron fence. There is lush, green grace; two wooden playground sets; and a big paved circle on which the kids can ride bikes, tricycles and play with various push toys.  The kids get to interact with nature – one day, they discovered a nest of just-hatched baby turtles. Sometimes in the winter, they’ll head straight from their parents’ cars in their snowpants to play outside, sled down a hill or do animal track investigations. The center’s staff have even created a t-ball field at the back of the property.

“There are so many options for exploration, observation and physical activity,” says the center’s owner, Anita Graham. “The possibilities for outdoor learning are endless!”

Welcome to a New Sponsor: Bulldog Plumbing of Batavia

I am so happy to announce that Go West Young Mom has a new sponsor, and it’s a company I’ve had great experience with myself.

Bulldog Plumbing is based in Batavia, and it’s a one-stop shop for plumbing needs. Its plumbers can handle replacements, repairs, renovations and remodels. They can relocate washers and dryers to the 2nd floor, they can install new bathrooms throughout a home. Bulldog Plumbing can also work on new construction and commercial projects; currently it is working with Classic Cinemas on a number of remodels to its theaters’ restrooms throughout the Chicagoland area.

Bulldog Plumbing is owned by Jamie Saam, who has lived in Batavia for 17 years. The primary plumber is her husband, Douglas Saam, who has 15 years of experience doing a mix of service, maintenance, new construction, design and layout. He served a five-year plumbing apprenticeship, completes continuing education on a yearly basis and says he enjoys “helping people solve their problems and get worry-free plumbing in their homes.”

I called Bulldog Plumbing last summer when confronted by a somewhat complicated problem involving our water meter and the city water department. My husband and I decided to look into getting some other plumbing work done at the same time, and Doug Saam provided us with a free estimate that featured two different options and price levels. He happily answered all my questions using language I could understand and never once hinted that I was an idiot about plumbing matters. (Disclose: I’m an idiot about plumbing matters.)
