Giveaway: Four Tickets to See the Peking Acrobats at Aurora's Paramount Theatre

Updated on Friday, February 7, 2014 at 5:01PM by Registered CommenterTara Burghart

Is your family ready to "flip out" over this tough winter we're having? Well, then you won't want to miss a chance for a fun, family-friendly evening inside the comfort of the gorgeous Paramount Theatre in Aurora!

OK. That's a silly play on words, but it's all for a great opportunity: I have four tickets to give away to see the Peking Acrobats perform on Sunday, Feb. 16, at 5 p.m. at the Paramount.

The Peking Acrobats are a troupe of China's most gifted tumblers, contortionists, jugglers, cyclists, and gymnasts complemented by live musicians playing traditional Chinese instruments. Many of this troupe have been studying the ancient art of acrobatics since they were children, and they are renowned for their grace, artistry and feats of seemingly impossible physical daring.

The Peking Acrobats put on a family-friendly show, and they will only be performing once in Aurora -- on Sunday, Feb. 16, at 5 p.m. Tickets are $35 for adults, $25 for children ages 12 and under. The winner of this giveaway will receive a "family four-pack" -- two adult tickets and two children's tickets.

Giveaway: Four Tickets for a 'Family Night Out' at the Paramount Theatre's '42nd Street'

Updated on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at 10:22PM by Registered CommenterTara Burghart

For my 8th grade graduation present, my mom took me to the St. Louis Muny to see a production of “42nd Street.” I still remember how excited I was, how grown up I felt, and how neat it was to see what seemed like the entire cast tap dancing on top of giant “coins” while singing “We’re in the Money."

So you can imagine how happy I was to see that “42nd Street” was being performed this year as part of the Paramount Theatre’s “Broadway Series” in downtown Aurora. It’s an ideal show to introduce your kids to musical theater – it’s got great music, dazzling choreography, beautiful costumes and a pretty wholesome plot (understudy becomes a star).

Now I have tickets to give away to a lucky Go West reader who can introduce her children to this classic American musical, just like my mom did, as part of a glamorous “Family Night Out.” The Paramount and I just ask that the winner keeps up the tradition and uses at least two of the tickets to bring kids to this family-friendly show.

The four tickets are for Saturday, Jan. 18, at 8 p.m. That’s the official “opening night” when members of the media and theater critics will be in attendance, and many of the cast members will invite their own families. It is sure to be a high-energy show, and the winning family can even attend the opening night reception after the curtain falls, in the Paramount’s gorgeous lobby, surrounded by the show’s cast and crew!

The Paramount Theatre would like to follow the winning family’s experience at “42nd Street” on its social media channels, including Facebook and Twitter. The winning family will have its photo featured on the Paramount’s Facebook page, and the adults will likely be asked what they thought of the show. (You won’t have to share your children’s names unless you want to.)

I’ll tell you how to enter the giveaway in a moment, but first a bit about “42nd Street,” which is rated G and runs 2 hours, 20 minutes:

Go West Giveaway: Tickets for 'The Magic of Bill Blagg' at the Paramount Theatre in Aurora

Updated on Friday, December 20, 2013 at 11:25AM by Registered CommenterTara Burghart

Are you a bit anxious about how you’re going to keep your kids entertained over the upcoming two-week holiday break?

Well, of course the Go West Calendar will be there to help. But the Paramount Theatre in downtown Aurora also has a special family-friendly show it scheduled for over the winter break: “The Magic of Bill Blagg” will be presented on Saturday, Dec. 28, with performances at both 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Blagg is known for thrilling and flabbergasting audiences with his high-energy act. He has been perfecting his art since he was given his first magic tricks as a 5-year-old boy.  n fact, those tricks eventually formed the foundation for his first performance in front of classmates and teachers at Beulah Park Elementary School in his Chicago suburban hometown of Zion.

Tickets are $35 for adults, $25 for children 12 and under. But thanks to the generosity of the Paramount, I have two sets of tickets to give away!

To enter, all you have to do is answer the following question in the comments section below: “What was a magical moment for your family during 2013?” Please also note that if you want to see the 2 p.m. show, the 6 p.m. show or if you can attend either. Giveaway: Four Tickets to 'Monster-Free Zone' at the KC Scaregrounds

Updated on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at 1:28AM by Registered CommenterTara Burghart

If you've driven by the Kane County Fairgrounds in the last month, you've probably seen the signs for the "KC Scaregrounds," a 3D Haunted House. Now in its third year, it has original ghoulish artwork by Disney's Haunted Mansion artist! Images are further brought to life by scary professional monster-actors hiden in the darkened maze with spooky sounds and eerie lighting.

For the past two years, local artist Joe Rodriguez has refreshed the 3D paintings, adding more haunting visuals. Photo courtesy of Steel Beam Theatre.

The KC Scaregrounds is actually the primary fundraiser for Steel Beam Theatre. Located in downtown St. Charles on Main Street, Steel Beam is a non-profit organization that has brought semi-professional theater to the Fox Valley for 13 seasons now. Steel Beam offers about a half-dozen shows each year for adults, but it has a "Kid's Stage Season," too. This year, shows for children include "The Frog Princess," "Babe The Sheep-Pig," and "Tiny Thumbelina."

Currently the children's show is "Legend of Sleeping Hollow," which runs through Nov. 2. Keeping with the Halloween spirit, this tale of a headless horseman is told in a fun and comical way.

But back to the giveaway for Go West readers.

The KC Scaregrounds will be open on Friday and Saturday evenings (Oct. 25 and Oct. 26) from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Tickets are $15; participants must be over 13 or accompanied by an adult. Group sales and special events are also available. To learn more, you can "like" the KC Scaregrounds Facebook page or follow it on Twitter at @KCScaregrounds with the hashtag #ifyoudare.

For younger kids, Steel Beam is offering a special "Monster-Free" 3D viewing on Sunday, Oct. 27, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. There will be treats for costumed children.

Tickets for the "Monster-Free Zone" are usually $10 for adults and $5 per child. But this week, I have a "family four-pack" to give away to the Monster-Free zone. It will allow one family up to four free admissions to the "Monster-Free Zone" this Sunday, Oct. 27, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
