When my preschooler became enamored with the "Imagination Movers" show on Disney Junior a couple of years back, I was skeptical. I figured the "band" was just a group manufactured by Disney to star in a television show.
But then I did a little bit of research and found the exact opposite: The guys in Imagination Movers were all friends from the New Orleans area. They all had professional careers (journalism, teaching, architecture, firefighting) when they started playing music and writing songs together after their kids' bedtimes.
Their fun, upbeat songs made them a sensation in New Orleans, and their short videos started airing on the local public television affiliate. Eventually Disney came calling, and produced three seasons of the "Imagination Movers" show, which mixed music, comedy and lessons about the power of your imagination, all aimed at the preschool set.
"Imagination Movers" is still shown daily on Disney Junior, and although no new episodes are currently being filmed, the guys in the band are still touring -- playing their hits and new songs, too. My daughter loved the Movers so much that we drove to Merrillville, Ind., last year to see them in concert. It was a really fun show, just about 60 minutes. The Movers ran around in the audience, threw balls out among the crowd, and played those darn catchy songs, which I admit I sometimes find myself humming, even when my daughter isn't around!
But you don't have to drive to Indiana to see the Imagination Movers, because they are playing two concerts on Sunday, May 18, at the Paramount Theatre in downtown Aurora!
The first show is at 11:30 a.m. and the second show at 2:30 p.m. on May 18. Tickets are $29 each, with tickets for children 12 and under priced at $20. You can also purchase a "Meet & Greet Upgrade" which will allow your child to meet Rich, Scott, Dave and Smitty -- and have a photo taken with the band, too! Each "Meet & Greet" pass is $60.
And this is where things get really good for Go West readers: I have four tickets to give away to see one of the Imagination Movers' shows in Aurora on May 18. (The winner can choose the concert time.) AND I have four "Meet & Greet" passes to give away, too. That's a minimum $330 value!
