Weekend Spotlight: Music, Madagascar and More

Thursday, June 7, 2012 at 8:30AM Looks like we're in for a sunny and hot weekend. Here are a few of the highlights from the Go West Calendar, but make sure to check it for lots more fun events, including some that migth better fit your family's interests or budget.

Photo courtesy of Pride of the Fox Inc.FOX VALLEY PRIDE: The Pride of the Fox RiverFest is celebrating its 30th anniversary in St. Charles. It gets underway Friday and runs through Sunday, featuring music, dragon boat races, craft show, petting zoo, car show, a 40-ton sand sculpture, storytellers and much more. Admission is free; the festival takes place throughout the downtown St. Charles area at nine different venues. Visit prideofthefox.com for detailed scheduled info and maps.
STARRY SKIES: Yorkville's "Music Under the Stars" will feature the band Trio playing hits from bands like the Eagles. The concert is at Town Square at 7 p.m. Friday. The concert will be held in conjunction with one of the town's popular "Wine Nights," where you can purchase wine tasting tickets during the show.
GREEN LIVING: Aurora's Green Fest is scheduled for Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Prisco Community Center. It will feature on-set recycling of hard-to-recycle items, rain barrel sales, a "green" car show, an exhibit of birds of prey and kids activities including art projects using recycled materials; face painting and nature-themed balloon creations. Admission is free.
MOVIES FOR SPECIAL NEEDS: If you have a child in your life who finds going to movies overwhelming, because of the loud sounds and the dark theater, you have a few chances to see "Madagascar 3" on Saturday morning is a more sensory-friendly environment. The new animated film will be shown as part of the "Lights Up Sound Down" series at Goodrich Quality Theaters in Batavia and Oswego, as well as the "Reel Movies for Real Needs" at the Marcus Theater in Addison. SUNDAY SOUNDS: If you'd like to end the weekend with an outdoor concert, you have at least three changes on Sunday. Cantigny will host Zazz, a jazz band, at 3 p.m. at the park's bandshell. The Geneva Commons will have 7th Heaven playing rock and pop from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. And Greg Boerner, a singer/songwriter/guitarist will play at the Peck Farm Park Interpretative Center on Sunday starting at 5:30 p.m.
