Weekend Spotlight: Race Cars, the Lorax, a Cave Hike

Photo by Fox Valley Voice on Flickr.VROOM, VROOM: Home Depot stores nationwide sponsor free "Kids Workshops," usually on the first Saturday of each month. This Saturday, the workshop will allow children from ages 5 to 12 to create a race car. Children will also receive a kid-sized orange apron, a commemorative pin and certificate of achievement. Home Depot stores in Aurora, Geneva and South Elgin are among those participating, with the workshop getting underway at 9 a.m.
LIGHTS UP, SOUND DOWN: The Randall 15 IMAX in Batavia will be showing "The Lorax" on Saturday morning as part of its "Lights Up, Sound Down" series for children with sensory issues. "The Lorax" is an animated film, is rated PG and is based on a Dr. Seuss book. The showing at the Randall 15 is scheduled for 11 a.m. Regular matinee prices apply. (Note that "The Lorax" is also scheduled to be shown at 10:30 a.m. at the Marcus Theatre in Addison as part of its "Reel Movie for Real Needs.")
JUNGLE BOOK: Steel Beam Theatre in St. Charles will be performing "Jungle Book" as part of its Children's Stage on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. Tickets are $14 for adults and $10 for students ages 16 and under.
CAVE HIKE: Red Oak Nature Center in North Aurora will be hosting a free "Cave Hike" on Sunday at 2 p.m. You will hike down the Fox River Bike Trail to Devil's Cave, where you'll hear the legend of how it got its haunting name. Make sure to dress for the weather.
