It's all about cupcakes for this Go West Giveaway

Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at 3:45PM Cupcakes might be all the rage now, but did you know they’ve been around for 200 years? They were quicker to bake in hearth ovens – and less likely to get burned -- than large cakes.
A Sutton Gourmet Paper liner in red damask.Let’s pause for a moment and think of all those women in centuries past who cooked over hearths. Makes my complaining about my “hard times” with meal planning seem a bit petty.
Anyway, in honor of Valentine’s Day we have a fun giveaway – and you guessed it, it’s all about cupcakes!
Three lucky readers will win sets of darling cupcake liners from Sutton Gourmet Paper. And yes, these really are cool enough to organize a giveaway around! All you have to do is answer this tasty question: What's your favorite flavor of cupcake? Don't forget to specify your preferred icing!
The cupcake liners were created by a Memphis “mompreneur,” Kellie Sutton, who is the mother of four and also a woman who loves to bake. She found that no matter what type of cupcake liners she tried, grease bled through after baking them and the colors would fade, distorting the designs that had been the draw in the first place.
“As a frugal shoper, I expected more for my money,” says Sutton.
So she went to work, researching different kinds of paper and putting liners to the test. She ended up creating Sutton Gourmet Paper, which currently offers eight designs and promises its cupcake liners remain just as colorful, chic and grease-free after baking as they do in their container.
The cupcake liners from Sutton Gourmet Paper come in four fun designs – zebra print, damask, scroll and harlequin – with each design coming in two different color combos. There are 50 liners to a pack, with a suggested retail price of $3.95.
For our giveaway, three lucky winners will win:
*First Place: Two sets of Sutton Gourmet Paper liners plus the book “100 Best Cupcake Recipes.”
*Second Place: Two sets of Sutton Gourmet Paper liners plus a Sof’ella brand boxed “Red Velvet Cake and Vanilla Bean Frosting Mix.”
*Third Place: Two sets of Sutton Gourmet Paper liners plus cupcake gel window stickers.
To enter, all you have to do is answer this fun question in the comments section below: What’s your favorite type of cupcake?
You MUST leave your email (in the "optional" email field) and at least your first name.
The giveaway will start now and end Friday, Feb. 11, at 11 p.m. Central time. We’ll announce the winner Saturday morning.
We’ll use random.org to pick random numbers for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, and the comments coinciding with those numbers will be the winner.
In the meantime, make sure to “like” Sutton Gourmet Paper’s Facebook page and follow its Twitter account (@SuttonGourmet) to keep up to date on new products, special promotions and cupcake recipes the company shares with fans.
If you don’t win the giveaway and want to purchase Sutton Gourmet Paper liners for yourself, you can easily do so via its website. The liners are currently not carried by any stores in our area, but we’ll let you know as soon as that changes.
Good luck! And now I’m going to go hug my oven.

I don't know about you, but I think I need to bake some cupcakes this weekend. And after reading your comments, I have some great inspiration for new flavors to try: Orange chocolate cardamon with a cream cheese topping; ginger cupcake with vanilla frosting; chocolate mocha with mocha buttercream frosting ... Oh, who am I kidding? I'll probably stick with my favorite of a red velvet cupcake and cream cheese frosting, but it was great to read all the replies.
Thanks to everyone who participated in this very fun giveaway, and thanks to Sutton Gourmet Papers for furnishing the sets of chic cupcake liners that each of our winners will receive, along with a couple other cupcake-themed prizes.
And now, without further ado, the winners, as chosen by random.org:
1st Place: Tracy R, who favors a "chocolate cupcake with a fluffy peanut butter frosting -- heaven in a cup!"
2nd Place: Jennifer, who says her "favorite type of cupcake is a dark chocolate with dark chocolate buttercream frosting."
3rd Place: Becky, who loves her "chocolate cupcake with chocolate frosting."
To the winners, I'll be in touch about getting your mailing address.
To everyone: Treat yourself to a cupcake this weekend, have a great Valentine's Day on Monday, and look for more Go West giveaways soon!

I worked at a bakery in New York that make carrot cake cupcakes with raisins and very finely diced walnuts that were slam bang amazing with or without the luscious cream cheese frosting. I liked them with just a dusting of powdered sugar. That job was murder on my waistline!
