Welcome to a New Sponsor: Bulldog Plumbing of Batavia

I am so happy to announce that Go West Young Mom has a new sponsor, and it’s a company I’ve had great experience with myself.

Bulldog Plumbing is based in Batavia, and it’s a one-stop shop for plumbing needs. Its plumbers can handle replacements, repairs, renovations and remodels. They can relocate washers and dryers to the 2nd floor, they can install new bathrooms throughout a home. Bulldog Plumbing can also work on new construction and commercial projects; currently it is working with Classic Cinemas on a number of remodels to its theaters’ restrooms throughout the Chicagoland area.

Bulldog Plumbing is owned by Jamie Saam, who has lived in Batavia for 17 years. The primary plumber is her husband, Douglas Saam, who has 15 years of experience doing a mix of service, maintenance, new construction, design and layout. He served a five-year plumbing apprenticeship, completes continuing education on a yearly basis and says he enjoys “helping people solve their problems and get worry-free plumbing in their homes.”

I called Bulldog Plumbing last summer when confronted by a somewhat complicated problem involving our water meter and the city water department. My husband and I decided to look into getting some other plumbing work done at the same time, and Doug Saam provided us with a free estimate that featured two different options and price levels. He happily answered all my questions using language I could understand and never once hinted that I was an idiot about plumbing matters. (Disclose: I’m an idiot about plumbing matters.)

Getting the work done all at once required some delicate coordination. But Doug Saam made sure I knew the right questions to ask the city water department and even volunteered to call himself if necessary. On the day of the work, he was here early, took care of matters with the city workers, left the area as clean as he found it – and made a great impression on my daughter, who was intrigued by everything he did.

A few months later, when our garbage disposal seemed on the verge of dying, I called Bulldog Plumbing again. Doug was able to get to our house in an hour, rescued the disposal and made sure I knew how to fix the problem if it happened again. (See disclosure note about me being an idiot.)

Jamie Saam says she wants Bulldog Plumbing to grow not only to help support their family.

“During this tough economic time while so many tradesmen are out of work, we went out a limb to create a company that strives to be family, community and environmentally oriented,” she says. “We hope that the customer relationships we build lead to a flourishing small business that is able to hire local plumbers that are currently looking to support their families.

“Each and every time the phone rings is a blessing not only to us, but to the others we will hire, local accountants we use, local printing companies, graphic designers, insurance providers, mechanics and everyone else that we try to support locally with our company. We strive to maintain a family business with Christian beliefs.”

If you didn’t guess by the name of the company, Jamie and Doug are big supporters of the “Bulldog” teams at Batavia High School – and huge fans of Batavia in general. After attending the University of Illinois at Chicago, they chose to move back to Batavia to start their family – and their young sons certainly keep them busy!

“This is a great place to raise a family and start a family-run business,” says Jamie. “The schools and park district in Batavia are fantastic. ...  We enjoy the art movement and focus that is happening not only in Batavia but throughout the Fox River Valley. Our kids are big fans of Water Street Studios' Awesome Art Afternoons, music at The Peg Bond Center in the summer and anything going on at Red Oak Nature Center. I couldn’t pick a better place to live.”
